Why Do Some People Have It Easy While Others Struggle?

I’ve often found myself pondering a question that’s both simple and profound: why do some people seem to glide through life while others are burdened with challenges? Why do some of us endure tough, traumatic childhoods while others enjoy what feels like a cookie-cutter experience? It’s a question that stirs up a whirlwind of emotions: frustration, confusion, and, of course, anger.

As I reflect on my own journey of healing, I can’t help but feel a sense of relief and acceptance. Though during much of my life, I struggled incredibly with a complete and utter sense of injustice. Why did I have to navigate through so much pain when someone next to me had never experienced it and may never have to? It’s a thought that lingered, always asking, “Why me?” This is what I came up with:

The Weight of Comparison

In a world where social media often showcases the highlight reels of others’ lives, it’s easy to slip into the habit of comparing our struggles to someone else’s seemingly perfect existence. We might see friends posting pictures of happy families, successful careers, or expensive vacations, and it can make us question our own worth and experiences. It’s a natural human inclination to wonder why some people have it easier while we face hardship after hardship. Yet, this comparison can lead us down a path of victimhood. It’s tempting to feel like life has dealt us an unfair hand. We tend to compare and even boast about it – “My childhood was worse than yours! I had less money, so I had to work harder!” Eventually, this can morph into a badge of honor, a reason for validation and attention.

But here’s the thing: pain and trauma are not badges of honor, nor are they indicators of our value as individuals. They’re simply part of the complex tapestry of life, woven with both joy and sorrow. Here is how I tend to rationalize this so-called “unfair life.”

There’s The Universe and Its Mysteries;

I often go back and forth with the idea of why the universe shapes our lives in such different ways. Are we meant to learn specific lessons through our struggles? While I don’t have all the answers, I’ve come to understand that perhaps these experiences are meant to guide us toward greater empathy, resilience, and personal growth.

Each of us carries our own unique story, filled with lessons that shape who we are. It’s important to acknowledge that while our journeys are different, they can lead us to a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world around us. It’s in our struggles that we often find our strength and develop a profound sense of compassion for others who are also navigating their own challenges. What I have come to find is that hidden in the darkness is a limitless well of luminous healing light that is more powerful than any form of hurt. It’s taken me many years, but through my own healing journey, I have come to embrace the love and light that had been concealed within my pain. I have come to understand that this light is not about erasing the darkness; it’s about learning to coexist with it. Acknowledging our pain allows us to process it, ultimately transforming it into a source of empowerment.

Why Me?

Instead of asking “Why me?” perhaps we can shift our perspective to “What can I learn from this?” This doesn’t mean we have to dismiss our pain or pretend it doesn’t exist. It simply means that we can begin to seek meaning in our struggles.  When we face trauma, we often develop a heightened sense of empathy and an ability to connect with others on a deeper level. We learn to appreciate the small joys in life and become more mindful of our emotional well-being.

Our experiences can motivate us to become a source of comfort for others who are struggling, creating a sense of connection. While it’s okay to feel hurt and question the fairness of life, it’s essential to remember that we have the power to rewrite our own narratives. We can choose to rise from our struggles, not as victims but as survivors who are constantly evolving.

To those of you who resonate with these thoughts, know that your pain does not define you. It’s a chapter in your story, and there is so much more to come. Life may present us with challenges, but it also offers us the gift of resilience, growth, and connection.  Today, I stand here as a testament to the power of resilience. Through the storms I’ve faced, I’ve discovered a light that continues to shine brightly, illuminating my path forward. If you find yourself in the midst of darkness, remember: there is light within you, waiting to be uncovered. Embrace your journey, honor your pain, and let your inner strength guide you toward a brighter tomorrow.
